As a medical student my field of research was experimental neurophysiology on animal models, which I continued for a short internship at Brown University, where I took part in brain mapping experiments. Afterwards during my fellowship in Neurology I got expertise in the field of cerebral tumor biological research, studying the role of growth factors in cell culture and genetic abnormalities in gliomas by molecular biology techniques. Besides I was involved in genetic tests (RFLP) for neurological genetic diseases. From 2006 to 2017 I lead research activity in experimental clinical neurophysiology applied to multiple sclerosis at MS Regional Referral Center (CReSM) at S. Luigi Gonzaga University Hospital. I moved for a while to Regina Montis Regalis Hospital, in Mondovì (CN), where as Director of the Neurology department I implemented clinical activity in the management of acute cerebrovascular diseases. Since july 2022 I’m the Director of the Neurological Department and MS Regional Referral Center (CReSM) at S. Luigi Gonzaga University Hospital in Orbassano, which includes inpatients ward, outpatients clinic, Neurophysiology and Neurobiology Laboratories and a BioBank dedicated to MS and demyelinating diseases. In the Neurobiology laboratory researches are focused on fluid biomarkers of disease activity and progression, with the aim to personalize treatment strategies in the single patient in the routine clinical practice. In the Neurophysiology Laboratory as explorative clinical application I’m applying non-invasive neuromodulation by rTMS in patients suffering from chronic migraine. Moreover I am involved in several phase III and IV clinical studies on multiple sclerosis therapies, either as principal or co-investigator.
I’m the author of 68 peer-reviewed scientific articles and more the 180 abstracts at scientific national and international congresses. I have been a reviewer for peer-reviewed scientific journ
